I was born in Banes, Cuba on May 24th, 1966. In 1969 my family immigrated to Spain, where we lived until 1976 when we once again immigrated, this time to the United States. We settled in Miami, FL – a place that I still call home.
I attended public schools all my life and graduated from South Miami Senior High. I went to Miami-Dade College and experimented with various majors: art, psychology, music, computer-science, accounting (!) and finally ended with AA in Business Administration. I then went to Florida International University where I majored in International Marketing.
My passion growing up was music, and I played in rock bands since middle school. As a starving musician I had to find other means of income, for example: construction, substitute teacher, production for local concert promoters, deck-hand for cargo ships, cook at a fast food place (only lasted one day ;-), clerk at a record store, lawn maintenance and movie theater attendant… All those jobs helped in shaping the person that I am today.
In 1993, I left the 'stage' and started a boutique management company called MATT Entertainment. After approximately 4 years as an artist manager, I joined MTV Networks in 1997. I started in the Talent Department and I am currently the General Manager /Executive Vice-president of MTV Tr3, the most-widely distributed TV network dedicated to super-serving today’s bicultural Latino youth.
